Intesis launches the first KNX Data Secure IR Gateway for air conditioning integration

In today’s building automation market, secure AC integration is not just an option—it’s a necessity. On July 1st, Intesis introduced the INKNXUNI001I200, the first KNX Data Secure-certified universal IR gateway designed to bring any infrared-controlled air conditioning unit into a KNX system with bidirectional communication.

Why is it important to have options for a secure AC Integration

As European regulations on cybersecurity (e.g., CRA, GDPR, eIDAS) become stricter, demand for secure, interoperable KNX components is growing rapidly. While KNX has long been the preferred standard for lighting, shading, and energy monitoring, AC remains one of the last frontiers where IR-based AC units are often left outside the KNX ecosystem, either due to integration complexity or a lack of secure, universal solutions.

This new product addresses this gap head-on. It’s fully certified for KNX Data Secure, ensuring encrypted communication that meets the latest security requirements for residential, commercial, and hospitality projects. As more projects explicitly require secure communication across all subsystems, including HVAC, this gateway delivers future-proof compliance in a simple, ETS-configurable form.

What Makes This Gateway Different?

Unlike legacy IR gateways or proprietary AC controls, this product is brand-agnostic, secure, and designed for professionals:

• Universal IR compatibility: Works with virtually any IR-based AC unit using an Autolearn function to select the proper code from a wide IR database.

• Bidirectional IR communication: Allows KNX to both control and receive feedback from the AC unit—rare in IR systems.

• ETS configuration with DCA: Fully integrated with the KNX programming tool ETS, no proprietary software or gateways required.

• Built-in binary inputs: Two inputs support occupancy sensors, window contacts, or pulse meters—enabling cost-effective local logic without additional KNX I/O modules.

• Integrated temperature sensor: Adds environmental feedback without requiring separate KNX sensors.

• Scene support: Trigger up to 10 predefined comfort or energy-saving scenes directly from the device.

Faster Commissioning, Lower Cost, Smarter Operation

For KNX professionals, air conditioning integration often means delays, additional hardware, and complex commissioning. The INKNXUNI001I200 flips that equation, adding savings in labor costs and reducing failure points across the project lifecycle.

Designed for the Present and the Future

With increasing awareness around energy efficiency, cybersecurity, and comfort in smart buildings, AC control is under growing scrutiny. The INKNXUNI001I200positions KNX integrators and solution providers to deliver high-performance AC control that is standard-compliant, secure by design, and simple to deploy.

If you need to connect IR-controlled AC units to KNX Data Secure, this is the solution you’ve been waiting for.
