CODESYS Presents KNX Integration at Light + Building 2018

Stand D71, Hall 9.1, Light + Building 2018

Industrial standard tool CODESYS now supports KNX, one of the most important fieldbus systems in building automation.

CODESYS is the market-leading, manufacturer-independent development system according to the international standard IEC 61131-3 in industrial automation. Today, CODESYS is used in thousands of applications in building automation, primarily to intelligently control temperature, lighting and room climate and thus exploit savings and optimization potentials.

The integration of KNX into CODESYS will be presented for the first time at Light + Building 2018. The product offer consists of a configurator for I/O channels, a KNXnet/IP protocol stack in the form of a runtime system component, and a data exchange function with the ETS5 configuration system. This allows each CODESYS-compatible device to be extended to act as a KNX subscriber and communicate with KNX I/Os.

The integrated data channels of the CODESYS controller are simply and completely transferred to ETS5 and generate corresponding “associations” in the CODESYS runtime system. The input and output data that have been integrated can be provided with an intelligent logic function in CODESYS.

At the same time, users can transfer the data to other bus protocols such as BACnet or OPC UA. Thanks to the Industry 4.0 features of the tool, the building automation functionality can be networked with SmartFactory or SmartEnergy systems.

The KNX integration in CODESYS was specified and developed in cooperation with ABB. ABB is a global technology leader in electrification products and a market leader in building automation. The CODESYS KNX integration is used in ClimaECO, the integrated heating, ventilation and air-conditioning automation solution (HVAC) by ABB based on ABB i-bus® KNX.
