KNX Association reaffirms commitment to a greener future through continued support of ‘Plant-for-the-Planet’

The KNX Association, developer of the world’s leading standard for home and building automation, is successfully committed to climate protection – both through KNX technology itself and through its 8th year of ongoing support of the international reforestation initiative ‘Plant-for-the-Planet.’

With buildings currently responsible for approximately 40% of global CO2 emissions, KNX technology serves as a critical tool for climate protection. Through intelligent building control, ranging from automated lighting, shading and HVAC to full energy optimisation of self-generated power and household appliances including EV charging, KNX is actively reducing the operational carbon footprint of buildings worldwide.

Beyond its technical contributions, KNX Association demonstrates its environmental leadership through long-standing support of Plant-for-the-Planet. Over the past two decades, the initiative has been responsible for over 36 million trees having been planted around the world.

“The support of KNX and other loyal partners is very important,” says Planet-for-the-Planet Founder and Teamlead Restoration & Conservation, Felix Finkbeiner. “Forest restoration and youth empowerment are long-term commitments that need reliable planning. Only through people and organisations that believe in our work are we able to protect and restore forests and continue our empowerment work with children. These commitments help us create long-term impact – for climate protection, biodiversity, and future generations.”

In addition to tree planting, Plant-for-the-Planet’s software tools such as the FireAlert app, as well as its restoration advice, help NGOs and governments around the world to protect and restore forests.

Finkbeiner adds, “We have empowered just over 100,000 children in 76 countries to get involved in their local communities to address the climate crisis, for instance by organising planting campaigns or giving speeches. All this is possible thanks to the commitment of our supporters such as KNX.”

KNX’s dedication to sustainability is rooted in its founding principles of durability, backward compatibility and interoperability. This ensures that systems installed decades ago remain functional and efficient today, preventing electronic waste and expanding opportunities to further increase energy efficiency well into the future.

“KNX makes a crucial contribution to sustainability,” says Heinz Lux, CEO of the KNX Association. “With our energy-efficient technology, the consistent longevity of KNX products to prevent electronic waste, and our dedicated support of Plant-for-the-Planet, we are contributing in three key ways to ensure that the global KNX community makes a concrete contribution to the fight against climate change.”
