Aiming High: KNX Userclub Jordan

By Mohamed Abu Alhaj

Discover how the newly-established KNX Userclub Jordan is empowering professionals and students to lead the future of building automation in the region.

KNX Userclub Jordan was officially established at the end of 2025. My original idea of founding a KNX userclub in Jordan was driven by a vision to create an organised and professional platform for KNX users in the country. I reached out to several colleagues working in the automation field, who warmly welcomed the idea and became the founding members, actively contributing to the early stages of this initiative.

Administration and membership

In addition to a President and Vice President, the club is currently managed by an administrative committee comprising a public relations officer, a secretary, an educational institutions coordinator, and a treasurer. Each is supported by a team from the organising committee.

At the moment we have 18 members and expect this number to increase steadily as awareness expands. Most of our members come from automation engineering backgrounds, whilst others are university students specialising in related disciplines such as electrical engineering, mechatronics, and smart systems.

Enthusiasm for KNX

Our interest in KNX stems from the fact that it is a globally-recognised standard that is rapidly expanding and represents the true future of building automation worldwide. As an open protocol, KNX continues to evolve and provides engineers and users with extensive flexibility in selecting devices from over 500 manufacturers. Furthermore, it offers a well-structured and organised framework that clearly classifies partners, manufacturers, test laboratories, training centres, and userclubs under one official umbrella, creating a reliable reference for professionals and eliminating randomness within the sector.

The key benefits of membership of KNX Userclub Jordan include networking with qualified professionals and experienced KNX engineers, knowledge exchange, and access to training sessions and introductory seminars.

Potential for KNX in Jordan

Our primary objectives are to promote KNX technology in Jordan, particularly amongst university students and young technicians who represent the future of the profession. We also aim to export Jordanian expertise in KNX to international markets by preparing highly-qualified engineers capable of competing globally.

Currently, the adoption of KNX in Jordan is still limited. However, we strongly believe that within the next five years, demand and market penetration will significantly increase, as awareness and education about the technology are now being promoted at a higher professional level. At present, there are not many large-scale landmark projects, but we see strong potential for growth.

One unique characteristic of the Jordanian market is the presence of many highly-skilled engineers and technicians. With proper awareness and opportunity, they are fully capable of delivering major KNX projects. We believe that as more engineers gain solid expertise in KNX, design practices will increasingly specify this technology for their projects.

Looking ahead, we expect KNX to secure a strong share of the Jordanian automation market, particularly as more cost-effective product options become available, and as the technical knowledge among engineers increases.

Plans for 2026

Over the next 12 months, our plan is to grow KNX Userclub Jordan from 18 members to more than 70 members. We also aim to establish representation of the club across different Jordanian universities to provide students with direct exposure to KNX technology. We hold regular monthly meetings, in addition to extraordinary meetings when necessary. Whilst there are currently no KNX-exclusive trade fairs in Jordan, automation and low-current (low-voltage) exhibitions such as JIMEX provide valuable promotional opportunities.

Interested parties can contact us through the official contact details listed under KNX Userclub Jordan on the KNX Association website. Our official website will be launched soon to further facilitate communication and engagement.

We are confident that KNX Userclub Jordan will play an important role in structuring and advancing the automation sector in Jordan, creating a professional community built on knowledge, collaboration, and international standards.
